I’m thinking about getting a bearded dragon or a leopard gecko, but I don’t know where to find local breeders. Is there a website or any suggestions on how to find breeders nearby? Thanks in advance!
You could try searching for breeders online. Facebook might have groups with breeders, and there are legal exotic pet stores that could help. Also, make sure the animals are legal to own in your state. I have a woodchuck, and I used a state-licensed breeder for that.
@Drew
Just a heads-up, talking about animal sales is not allowed on Facebook, even though it happens. Most groups are private now, and the language is coded, so you need to be in the know.

I get what you’re saying. There are a lot of animal sales on Facebook that slip through the cracks. People just use coded language. I even bought a few rabbits on FB.
@Drew
Yeah, it’s like playing whack-a-mole, where Facebook keeps shutting down groups, but new ones pop up.

What happens is they sell in the discussion section, not in the ‘for sale’ part. That helps them get away with it, like I did with my rabbits.
@Drew
That approach still gets groups shut down. I breed and raise several types of animals, including rabbits. I know many groups that got shut down for animal deals in the discussion. These groups are mostly private now, and they use coded language. If they don’t, it’s just a matter of time before the group gets taken down.
@Lennon
I used to breed rabbits and sold them on Facebook. I would always check the seller’s page to make sure nothing looked off. I never ran into any issues using Facebook, but you have to be cautious.
You could also check Craigslist and see if there are any herp shows in your area.
Have you tried morphmarket.com? You can search by species and location to find local breeders. It’s a great resource for finding reptiles!
