Anyone know where to find a finger monkey?

I’ve been looking everywhere, and I can’t find solid info on where to get one. Any tips?

Do you even know what the real name of this monkey is?

The monkey you’re asking about is called a Pygmy Marmoset. There are actually two types: Western and Eastern. The one you posted seems like a baby, but keep in mind these guys grow much bigger than ‘finger size.’ They’re small but not as tiny as people think. Here’s the thing, though: they are not good pets for many reasons. Let me break it down for you:

@Teo
First, they need a special diet that includes tree sap, which is not easy to replicate at home. They also need a big, natural space to jump around and climb. Even if you provide that, they can become aggressive as they grow up and don’t like being handled.

@Teo
Actually, the monkey in the picture looks more like a common marmoset. But yeah, they’re incredibly high-maintenance pets and not for most people. There are ethical breeders out there, but they’re rare, and caring for these animals is way more complicated than most expect.

@Bela
Thanks for pointing that out. I still think primates should stay in the wild or in sanctuaries. Breeders often cut corners, and the average person isn’t equipped to handle them.

@Teo
Okay, but where do I actually buy one?

Sorry, but I can’t tell you that. Keeping them as pets isn’t a good idea, and most forums like this discourage sharing breeder info.

Take my advice: don’t do it. I’ve owned a primate, and it’s not what you think. They’re loud, aggressive, and really hard to care for properly. It’s not worth the stress for you or the animal.

Absolutely not. Don’t even think about it.

Why not? I’m confused.

A lot of people on forums like this are against keeping primates as pets. It’s always a heated topic.

Yeah, because owning one is a nightmare. Even if you do your research, the reality is way harder than you’d expect.

Let me save you some time: you don’t get one. They’re not meant to be pets.

Calling it a ‘finger monkey’ shows you need to do more research. These animals have really specific needs and don’t stay tiny.

Why don’t you stop being rude and just explain what’s wrong? I just thought they were cute.

@Oran
The problem is that most people think they’re like having a hamster or a cat, but they’re not. These animals are super high-maintenance, need a lot of space, and are really expensive to care for. They also have legal restrictions in many places.

@Oran
I’ve owned one, and trust me, you don’t want to. They’re not pets in the way people imagine. The challenges far outweigh the novelty.

Make sure you check the laws in your area. A lot of places ban keeping primates as pets, and the fines can be huge. Plus, if they get sick, finding a vet who will treat them is nearly impossible.
