For real this can't be right!?

My friend recently had his macaw confiscated due to not having the proper license (I know, no judgment). His home has been inspected and approved, but he’s being told he must pay a $20,000 fee—yes, you read that right—before he can get her back. How can a missing $40 license result in a $20,000 penalty? My friend and his feathered companion are really struggling with this… Any advice?!

Does anyone have information on Florida laws related to macaws or other parrots?

According to this, there’s no permit required for owning parrots, though I’m not sure about the rules for importing them. That said, I wouldn’t fully rely on information I found in just a few minutes as someone who isn’t from Florida. Be sure to double-check, but it seems like you should be fine as long as the parrots aren’t being imported illegally. Here’s the link for more details: Wildlife as a Personal Pet | FWC

Where is he located? Country, state, or region?

Ah, that makes sense. Australia is likely one of the strictest countries when it comes to these matters. I feel so bad for your friend. Does he have the funds to cover the fee?
