Our llama is turning 10 tomorrow, and I want to make him a special birthday cake! My idea is to use a small compressed hay base and decorate it with toppings he loves.
What are your llamas’ favorite treats that could work as toppings? Any ideas for an icing? I was thinking about using pumpkin or sweet potato purée. What fruits or veggies are safe and well-liked by your llamas? I also thought about using his pellets as sprinkles.
That sounds awesome!
From my experience, llamas enjoy raw carrot peels, apple slices, corn husks, celery, kale, cucumbers, and lettuce. You can also try small chunks of pumpkin, sweet potato, or banana. Avoid anything from the nightshade family like tomatoes or peppers. A friend of mine even gave her llamas orange peels, and some of them loved it!
Just keep sugary treats to a minimum. Don’t forget to share pictures of the party!"
Thanks for the suggestions! I ended up using a compressed round Timothy hay base topped with pumpkin purée as icing. I decorated it with dried fruits, edible flowers, and his favorite pellets as sprinkles. Boo was a bit unsure at first but enjoyed the pellets, and his llama buddies liked some of the other toppings. They weren’t big fans of the pumpkin, so I gave the leftovers to the pigs—they loved it! Check out the party photos here: here.
