Hey everyone! I have a space in my apartment where I’m planning to set up a terrarium, but I’m not sure what kind of creatures would be best for it. I’m open to ideas like reptiles, frogs, insects, spiders, and anything else that could fit. I’d love something that likes to climb and doesn’t need too much handling. I know it’s important to research care and make sure the environment works for whatever I pick. I’m planning to wait a few years until my cats are no longer around, so I have plenty of time to research and prepare. If there’s a better forum for this question, feel free to point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!
Any arboreal gecko species could work. You might want to look into smaller arboreal snakes like vine snakes, or emerald tree skinks. Those could do well in this space.
A snake could work, but they also need a place to hide, plus a heat lamp or heating mat. Just something to keep in mind!

Do you have any snake species in mind? I think most of the climbing types might be too big for this setup, though.
@Zenith
You could consider a Green Tree Python. If the terrarium is placed on its side, a Ball Python might also work. Or maybe a chameleon, which would fit the idea of a tank like this.
This would be perfect for various arboreal lizards and geckos! A Leachianus gecko would look amazing in it—they’re really impressive. If you want something that’s more active during the day, maybe go for emerald tree skinks or a chameleon. Skinks are easier to care for and more social, so you could interact with them more. But remember, they’re reptiles, so handling is optional. As for snakes, I can’t think of any small enough for this space that would live comfortably in a vertical enclosure. Check out this forum for more ideas, or even look into r/reptiles. You can have a lot of fun with this setup!
