What Savannah Cat generations are allowed in Minnesota?

I keep finding mixed info about what Savannah Cat generations are legal in Minnesota. Some sources say all generations are fine, others say only F4 and later, and some say they’re completely banned. To make it more confusing, I’ve seen breeders in Minnesota selling F3 kittens. If F4 and up are the only legal ones, how are they doing that?

Does anyone here own a Savannah Cat in Minnesota and know the actual rules? I’m really interested in getting an F3 or F4, but if it’s not allowed, I’d consider an F8 or maybe a Bengal. I just want an active cat I can keep up with. Thanks for any advice!

I’m not sure about the exact rules, but I totally get why you’re confused. It’s really common to see conflicting takes on laws like these. Also, just because someone is selling F3s doesn’t mean it’s legal. I’ve seen people sell birds illegally in my state all the time. Sometimes they don’t know the rules, and other times they just hope no one notices. Good luck figuring it out!

F4 and later are legal, but it can vary by city or county. There are definitely people selling Savannah cats from earlier generations in Minnesota, even though they’re not allowed. Just because someone’s selling them doesn’t mean it’s legal. A lot of illegal animal sales happen around here.

Check your state laws directly. I live in Wisconsin, and I’m pretty sure we can own F1s here, though they’re a huge responsibility. It’s worth looking up for your state too.
