Where Can I Find a Capybara… Anyone Got Tips?

I’m looking for a capybara, but I’m not totally sure about the legal stuff. The internet can be full of “Karen’s” warning you about this kind of thing, so I figured this forum would have some real advice! Anybody know where I could find one? Or maybe someone who knows a guy? Lol, I may have watched one too many TikToks. Thanks for any help!

So cool, thank you for sharing! Sadly, they aren’t allowed here in NJ.

Do capybaras go through any kind of rut or aggressive period?

I actually have a pet woodchuck and love it!

Just so you know, capybaras are big—like 75 pounds! They’re way bigger than nutria, which are invasive here in North Florida. A capybara could escape and might cause you all kinds of issues, from fines to neighborhood complaints. We had a guy whose pet cobra got loose, and it cost him thousands before they finally found it!

Honestly, I’d advise against getting a capybara as a pet.
