I’m not sure where else to ask, so I’m just putting this out here for thoughts.
I’ve had a lot of different exotic animals over the years. I’ve been an animal lover since I was a kid. Back in middle and high school, I’d pick a pet I wanted, dive into researching everything about its care, and make a document with all the details, including costs. I’d use it to convince my parents to let me get the pet. It worked a couple of times
Side note: I’m neurodivergent, and animal care is definitely one of my special interests. I work with dogs for my job and want to explore more in this field.
So here’s my idea:
I was thinking of creating detailed care guides or booklets for different animals—mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and maybe even fish (though I’m not as into fish). Then, I’d sell them as digital downloads on a platform like Etsy or maybe through a website and social media I’d create to share and promote them.
Do you think people would actually be interested in buying these? I’d make them pretty comprehensive, covering both sides of common debates in animal care so people can get a full picture for their current or future pets. These would be available as digital downloads, so folks could read them online or print them.
I’m not looking to make a fortune—just trying to do something productive with the information I already love gathering. I thought about maybe doing a basic care version for each species and then a more detailed one for those who want to go deeper. That way, they wouldn’t get too overwhelming.
What do you think? Would this help people? I know one big issue with pet keeping is that people don’t research enough before getting an animal. Maybe a convenient guide could help if it’s affordable or even free—still not sure how to price it yet. Thanks for any thoughts or advice!
