I really enjoy interacting with animals through petting and showing affection, although I understand not all animals appreciate it. I’m curious to learn which exotic animals enjoy being petted or held, especially if females tend to be more docile in some cases. If you have owned or currently own an exotic pet that enjoys being petted, or if you know someone who has, I would appreciate hearing about your experience.
(Just a side note: I’m not looking to make an impulsive purchase of an exotic animal. I’m simply gathering information to research potential animals that I might consider getting in a few years.)
I once had a large male Argentinian Tegu who adored head scratches and would arch his back like a cat. He would respond when called and slept peacefully.
I’m not sure if he was exceptionally relaxed or simply favored me, as he wasn’t as tolerant with my dad, who primarily cared for him.
I also had a snake that enjoyed having its chin rubbed. Reptiles can appreciate affection too, depending on the individual.
Woodchucks mine snuggle with me, they wrap their paws around my leg and stand on their hind legs and look up at me to be picked up
Patagonian maras require extensive socialization from birth, but with proper early interaction, they can become very friendly, affectionate, and sociable animals. Individuals raised by their mothers tend to remain skittish and cautious in temperament.
I’d post a pic but I’m not getting the option
