Exotic pet owners… what’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced?

I’ve been curious about exotic pets for a while and wondered… what are the most unexpected challenges people face when keeping these unique animals? Any advice or stories?

Do places that sell exotic pets check to make sure the animals are healthy? Like no diseases or rabies?

In most countries, the law requires exotic pet shops to have their animals checked by a vet. They usually need to provide health certificates that prove the animals don’t have any dangerous diseases before they can be sold.

@Riley
Got it, thanks for clearing that up!

Most exotic pets sold are bred in captivity, so they’re not likely to have diseases like rabies. They’re usually as healthy as any pet you’d get from a regular pet store.

For me, the hardest part of owning silver pheasants was building the aviary. It took way longer than I thought it would!

But isn’t it kind of fun too? Designing and building the perfect home for them? Sounds like a project you can be proud of!

Finding a good vet for exotic pets is tough. They’re expensive and not always close by.
