I currently have a variety of pets, including chinchillas, mice, rabbits, sugar gliders, and two hamsters. I’ve also had guinea pigs, crested geckos, and rats in the past. Right now, I have a spare double Critter Nation cage, as well as several tanks (20, 10, 40, and 75 gallons) and an x-pen, along with dog crates in various sizes.
I’m looking to add one or two more pets to my collection but can’t decide what to get next. I was considering micro squirrels but am open to any suggestions you might have!
I have a passion for educating myself about animals, and I work at a zoo as an animal educator, so I can easily research and learn about any species you recommend. While I’m primarily interested in mammals, I’m also open to reptiles. However, please avoid any bird suggestions, as I can’t have them.
I’m not too worried about budget, but I’d prefer not to spend excessively. Also, I live in a rural area, so finding exotic pets can be a bit challenging.
That’s an awesome variety of pets you have! Have you thought about getting a hedgehog? They’re small, have unique personalities, and are relatively easy to care for. Plus, they don’t take up too much space!
I second the hedgehog idea! They’re adorable and can be a lot of fun. If you’re leaning toward reptiles, a leopard gecko could also be a good choice. They’re low-maintenance and come in some beautiful color patterns!
What about a sugar bear? They’re similar to sugar gliders but have a few differences in care. They’re super cute and would fit nicely in your collection!
Since you have a Critter Nation cage, how about getting a pair of ferrets? They’re playful, social, and will love the space you have. Just be aware they require a bit more attention and playtime than some other pets!
I’ve heard great things about mini pigs, too! They’re intelligent and can be litter-trained. Just make sure you have the space for them to roam. They can be a bit more involved, but they’re really rewarding pets!
