I’ve already done some research and confirmed that it’s legal to own a pet raccoon in my state. I’m planning to get a domesticated one and have gathered information about their diet. However, I’d like to know what else I should consider before bringing one home. Should I allow it to roam freely like a dog, or should I provide it with a large cage similar to a rodent’s enclosure?

That sounds exciting! Raccoons are super intelligent but also very curious. I’d recommend starting with a large enclosure when you first bring it home. They can be quite mischievous and might get into trouble if left to roam freely.

Definitely! While they can be trained, it’s safer to give them a space where they can’t cause any damage or get into things they shouldn’t. Plus, they need a secure area to feel safe.

And don’t forget about enrichment! Raccoons love to explore, so you should include toys and activities in their cage. Things like climbing structures and foraging toys can keep them entertained.
