What exotic pets are actually okay to keep?

What kinds of exotic pets are considered acceptable to have as pets here in this forum?

The animals that seem to cause the most discussion are primates. People often get them when they’re babies, but forget they grow up and need more care as they get older. If they aren’t treated right or the attention drops when they become more work, they can get depressed.

I did know a couple with a marmoset that had everything figured out. They made sure to give it all the care it needed, and the little guy loved them back.

He had a cage that was usually open, except when there were safety issues. They kept his diet balanced, though it was expensive and needed regular maintenance. They even trained him well (except for diapers, he fought that like a 2-year-old). I lived with them for a while, and I was impressed. Now, I’m really fond of marmosets and small primates in general.

They made sure to get him used to me when I moved in and taught me how to handle it properly. The little guy was protective of his family until he felt okay with me.

When it comes to owning animals like this, it’s all about the owner. Many people can’t even take care of a dog or cat the right way. It’s more about making sure the animal is happy and has what it needs to thrive.

It really depends on whether or not you can provide a good life for the animal. Whether it’s a hamster or a tiger, they all need enclosures that mimic their natural habitat. The problem is that most people don’t understand that not all animals are like dogs or cats. They don’t all just want to be our companions.

I can’t believe how anti-exotic some people on this forum are!

I know right? It’s crazy!

I mean, look at the rules.

Owning exotic pets is a privilege, not a right.

It clearly says that if the moderators think your post promotes bad pet ownership, they may remove it. They also don’t allow posts about wanting dangerous or inappropriate animals as pets, like big cats.
